Forsa Energy

Forsa Energy is a company with a mandate to grow a portfolio of renewable and gas generation sites in the European Market. Ultimetric Response was chosen as a proven and complete solution for their new gas powered generation sites. Response currently despatches and reports for all the company’s gas powered generation sites. Ultimetrics has a comprehensive understanding of site based technology therefore has been able to accommodate Forsa’s specific control and monitoring requirements as new needs arrive. Ultimetrics has been able to provide a custom solution for gas and electricity metering, enabling efficiencies to be calculated. Forsa also had a strong need for a high-granularity genset monitoring tool that could be installed on site independently of the engine providers solution. Ultimetric Historian has been supplied to each of Forsa’s sites enabling them to log all critical data at a 1 second rate. In addition to providing detailed analysis, Historian also provides reports and alarms to specified individuals ensuring that Forsa maintains comprehensive tracking of any performance issues.

Summary

Ultimetrics has been able to provide a complete solution for Forsa’s needs. Working closely with them from the onset, we have been able to offer them our expert assistance and advice when needed. Concerns such as metering have been met in full with Ultimetric Historian, providing a reassuring and independent account of site performance. Ultimetrics is working together with Forsa on new site development and offering the connection of services such as Optional Stor as the need arises.

Welsh Power

Welsh Power is a leading developer and operator of gas fuelled reserve power generation plants in the UK, with a 50% share of the Non-BM Market. Their generation sites are operated remotely to supply power to the grid when instructed. Welsh Power has chosen Ultimetric Response to control and monitor their portfolio of generation sites because it affords them the best operational flexibility, enabling them to optimise how their generation capacity is traded. Ultimetric Response has provided a well proven solution, which has supported every aspect of their dispatch and reporting requirements from their first sites to the substantial platform they currently operate.

Ultimetrics is a leader in technical innovation providing connectivity to a host of services from 3rd party providers as well as National Grid/ESO services. Ultimetrics was the first to achieve full PAS STOR compliance with their Response product.

In addition to STOR, Response has enabled Welsh Power to adopt a wide range of new services, essential for achieving the best commercial opportunity in today’s fast evolving market.

Generation services are dispatched to each of Welsh Power’s sites from the Response Cloud server. The server connects over dual-redundant links to Response Site units ensuring the highest levels of reliability and security. Site units carry out control, alarm and monitoring on each site and are able to operate autonomously if required.

The Response Cloud server hosts dashboards for their entire portfolio. Both engineering and commercial teams are able to select dashboards specific to their needs. This enables individuals to quickly make informed decisions and ensure that the highest levels of performance are achieved.

Summary

Ultimetrics has significantly assisted Welsh Power with the development of its business model by providing a modular centralised system which can be operated and managed efficiently from its headquarters in Cardiff. This provides Welsh Power with a reliable, flexible and scalable solution to assist in managing its growing portfolio of remote power plants. Ultimetrics experience and expert knowledge of supervisory controls and monitoring for generator sets has made the integration of Response into Welsh Power’s generation sites uncomplicated and straightforward. This has allowed Welsh Power to primarily concentrate on their commercial performance.

Infinis (Alkane)

Ultimetrics has been working with Infinis since its takeover of Alkane Energy in 2018. Alkane was the UK’s largest producer of energy derived from CMM (coal mine methane). We have partnered with Alkane since 1999, providing control systems and equipment, as well as supervisory controls, monitoring and reporting software. Our containerised control systems were used to drive a series of gas pumps, extraxting the methane gas from abandoned coal mine workings. The control systems delivered the gas at constant pressure through gas coolers and filters to containerised gas powered generators, which supplied electricity to the Grid.

From 2012 we provided Alkane with our NGC approved Ultimetric Response technology. Alkane continued to expand their portfolio of STOR sites for their new STOR and demand side generation across the UK. Our centrally managed solution now controls and monitors the portfolio for Infinis, which consists of 152 sites, representing a total generating capacity of over 475MW.

Summary

Ultimetrics has now been working with Infinis since its takeover of Alkane. We have supported their portfolio of CMM and natural gas powered sites, enabling them to safely migrate their newly acquired sites into the Infinis portfolio without disruption to generation. Ultimetrics continue to support the legacy TelGas software, which Infinis use to give them full operation status of their Legacy sites. A key feature has been the support of the legacy National Grid despatch of STOR.

Sindicatum

Ultimetrics was chosen by global sustainable resources company Sindicatum to gather and process data from its Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects in Asia. CDM was a process devised under the Kyoto protocol to mitigate the effects of greenhouse gases produced by industrial processes. Sindicatum developed and operated methane drainage plants on landfill and coal mines sites which could destroy the methane by using the gas to fuel gas powered electricity generators. Local site owners benefited from the revenue gained from power generation while Sindicatum earned carbon credits, known as ERs (Emission Reduction tonnes) which could be traded internationally

Summary

Ultimetrics utilised its monitoring technology and knowledge of gas plants to provide a custom solution for Sindicatum. The solution gave Sindicatum remote visibility of plant operation and alarms, secure archiving of data, live graphing, performance statistics and most importantly formal monthly reports of ERs were submitted to the UNFCC for certification. Ultimetrics server based Report Generator meant that the monthly reports ran at a fraction of the time that it took to process the data on Microsoft Excel, it removed human error, removed compatibility issues and provided a clear colour coded data output in ODF, expediting report auditing by the UNFCC.

SOCOTEC

SOCOTEC is a UK market leader in environmental services which required a solution for its aging fleet of PC based multi-point gas sample systems operating on its portfolio of coal mine and landfill sites.  SOCOTEC chose Formac technology to upgrade and replace its existing systems and to provide new client sites with an advanced technical solution

Summary

Ultimetrics latest Ultimetric Sample product gives SOCOTEC the core technology with which to design and quickly configure custom solutions for their clients. Ultimetrics brings significant operational benefits such as remote configurability over the Internet as well as multi-site management dashboards allowing SOCOTEC to respond proactively to calibration issues before they become critical. SOCOTEC can also readily configure customized dashboards, HMI displays and annunciator panels for their clients. All data can be easily graphed and exported using the intuitive built in menus

Harwell UKAEA

Mowlem won a contract for the remediation of a brown field land at UKAEA’s South West Storage area on the Harwell site. The hazardous nature of the material buried on the site in 25 pits meant that an extensive monitoring network was required to record data and to alert personnel while the remediation work was taking place. Mowlem chose ultimetrics networked monitoring solution to collect data from 15 gas instruments distributed across the site

Summary

A total of 148 gas detectors were continuously monitored on the site and all data was logged by dual redundant servers located at a central monitoring location. Mimic displays and multi level audible and visual alarms were used to alert local personnel when a dangerous gas level was detected. In addition to on-site monitoring, both Mowlem and UKAEA were given remote secure access to the monitoring system so that they could view mimic displays and alarms as well as export the archived data.
