Case Studies

Formac Electronics has successfully deployed and supported a custom TelGas™ solution to each of the following clients:

SINDICATUM CARBON CAPITAL - CDM MONITORING, CHINA
As part of the Kyoto Protocol, Sindicatum Carbon Capital are required to monitor and record CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) data on their landfill and CMM (Coal Mine Methane) sites in China. Utilising their unique knowledge of gas plant controls, Formac implemented a TelGas Midi interface. This allows each site to use a common interface to capture the relevant data and store it on Formac's database server.

TES BRETBY - COAL MINE ENVIRONMENT SAMPLE SYSTEM
TES Bretby needed to replace their legacy tube bundle sample system with a new, networked design. This would give them much greater operating efficiency by using pro-active remote monitoring as well as a link into the local mine SCADA system. TES chose the TelGas Sample System Engine as the ideal platform for the task.

UKAEA – HARWELL LAND RECLAMATION - Mowlem land reclamation on UKAEA’s Harwell site
Mowlem required a highly customised and reliable solution to monitor harmful gases during the removal of contaminated waste from the Harwell site. (view press release- http://www.ukaea.org.uk/news/2004/09_02_04.htm)

TelGas provides real time monitoring of 128 gas detectors whilst recording data continuously on a dual redundant server. Data is also streamed seamlessly onto live mimic displays at other remote Mowlem offices.

GARDNER DENVER MONITORING AT ESSO CNG SITES
Esso operate a number of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) filling stations for commercial vehicles in the UK. The containerised gas compressor systems are manufactured, supplied and maintained by Gardner Denver.

Gardner Denver required a monitoring system for their gas compressors which would integrate readily into their control system without affecting integrity. Formac’s TelGas solution has provided a seamless real-time monitoring solution, resulting in a management tool that enables Gardner Denver to enhance their service and support operations. TelGas also provides the engineering design team with powerful data analysis tools, allowing them to enhance their products’ reliability and performance.

CROWCON - SILVER DOLLAR CITY THEME PARK, USA
Crowcon have a legacy gas monitoring network at the Silver Dollar City theme park in Missouri, USA. The requirement for an additional Vortex unit meant that the existing software and application server could not be used. Formac’s integration team have supplied the client with a highly optimised solution utilising the existing hardware and adding remote server maintenance.

ALKANE ENERGY Plc - TELGAS CONTROLS ON COAL MINE METHANE SITES
Alkane operates a number methane plants which extract gas from disused coal mines, providing an energy source for industrial applications. The gas is trapped in underground voids caused by the mining of coal. Coal mine methane may either be used in a heating process or fed to one or more generator sets, powering gas engines and driving alternator sets which produce electricity. TelGas™ Controls provide a complete solution for the control of the plants from low level local plant controls of safety interlocks and closed loop pump controls to remote supervisory control of generator sets via TelGas™ SCADA.
